Sam Squared and Widget (C), by Sam Salo

June 13, 2008

Straw straw, ya’ll (or is that hey hey…),

As always, thanks for the comments you all; keep them coming–they’re fuel to a very up-and-down creative process (weird thing that is, the creative process, you know?).  As for new material, yes…yes indeed, very new, and very, well, somethingerish, really…

Thanks again you guys!

From January ’08 syndicate submission (part 4 of 4)

what if all of a sudden, everybody laughed instead of burping, and vice versa? Hmm...

Sam and Widget, charades, and uber-egotism...

Widget encounters an issue at mealtime; Sam thinks less of it...

Sam Squared. The Man. The mystery.

Neo-dodgeball. It\'s what they play. Sam Squared and Widget, that is.

Nice to see Sam in a full frontal action pose. Cool drawing, I like the scattering bullets. This does seem to be the second time he’s dodging some serious flack so I’m begining to wonder who’s on the firing end, but I’m sure you’ll get to that latter on.

Sam is kind’ve looking ultra thin in this one, like he went on a diet of carrots and lettuce for two months. Another thing I’ve been wondering about is the obvious use of direct high speed metalic force implied by the smoking Uzis. Does Sam actually fire at people, and if so isn’t that against the unofficial code of superhero conduct? Not that I was ever to crazy about that part of superhero wisdom, I mean if some innocent persons life is in danger the bad guy is going down. So, is Sam going to buck the trend of some what overly idealistic superheroes who don’t no when to pull the trigger?

I love this one, simple, but absolutely hilarious.

Another nice one, Widgets expressions are really winning.

What an idea, big points for creativity on this one Sam, it’s a topic that truly reasonates with the common man. Widget looks so serious and astute. I don’t like Sam’s pose in panel four, it might have something to do with his mouth, angled back, and scrunched up bulid.

Your artistic renderings of Sam and Widget have improved a great deal since these earlier drawings. Forgive me if I’m a little blunt in my comments, it’s just the way I tend to write.

God has given you an amazingly unique creative talent. Good stuff Sam!!!
